BBC THAILAND - EARTH'S TROPICAL PARADISE - Secrets of the South (2017)

Underwater Camera Assistant - Camera Operator - Underwater BTS - Stock Footage

This was one of my first big projects, shot in 2015 at Koh Tao in Thailand. A team from BBC was coming to the island and contacted me in advance for advice on locations, marine life and locations to shoot. Our job was to capture the feared Titan Triggerfish, with several challenging shots on the wish list.

Before the team arrived we arranged for me to get started early, putting together a small team for a 2 day shoot with the goal of capturing Titan Triggerfish feeding on giant clams. The team sent out a Sony A7S II in a Nauticam Housing and I got to work.

I was only able to spend another 5 days together shooting with the team as I had prior engagements. During that time we captured nesting behavior, mating rituals and rare feedings on animals such as crown of thorns starfish and sea urchins.

While one of my jobs was to capture what we thought would be the inevitable attack on main underwater camera operator Simon Enderby for a BTS sequence, that somehow never materialized despite spending several days with target animals at one of the world's most infamous locations for triggerfish attacks.

In the end the shoot was a success with my footage featured both in the main episode and BTS. You can watch it here.
